"Everyone is valued and takes responsibility for the
challenging learning that takes place"

Our Approach

We believe that every day should be used to the full and we want every child to be challenged and keen to learn. In our fast changing society, we recognise the need to teach the children how to learn. We want the children to strive for excellence in every aspect of our child-centred curriculum which is wide, balanced and cohesive, and provided according to agreed policies. We want the children to think for themselves, exercise their imaginations and have fun.

Our plans draw on the interests of the children and we base the learning exciting multisensory experiences and, each term, this includes some special whole school themes.

We teach all required areas of the National Curriculum. The main emphasis is on English, Maths, Science, I.T and R.E. The curriculum is further enhanced through Design and Technology, History, Geography, Music, P.E., Art, Personal, Moral, Social and Health and Spiritual and Cultural Education.

The children in Nursery and Reception follow the EYFS curriculum this is delivered through vibrant, thought provoking lively experiences and activities that are based on well grounded knowledge of how young children learn. Children in the Early Years have the opportunity to learn inside and outside on a daily basis. Learning experiences are matched to the needs of the children and we are ever mindful of the changing world that they will become such a big part of in the future.

Within the EYFS framework your child will be learning new skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development. Children should mostly develop the 3 Prime areas first. These are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

As children grow, skills acquired within the Prime areas help them to develop further knowledge within the 4 Specific areas. These are:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. Children learn by playing, exploring, being active and through creative and critical thinking. We want children to be excited about learning.
